"The idea: "Create an innovative, digital adidas Originals shoe"

The concept for the project with the adidas Originals business unit was to develop a digital adidas Originals shoe with the possibility of customization via display. The idea was to create a highly innovative digital adidas Originals shoe that would allow customers to customize the brand's product to their liking. This digital solution was to be an innovative extension of the traditional adidas shoe by offering customization options through the use of digital technologies.

Start at zero

As Product Manager for the adidas Originals business unit, I faced several challenges. First, I had to balance the customer needs of the Originals business unit with feasibility. This included evaluating the customer requirements and checking the feasibility of the IoT and the associated app. It was also necessary to build a prototype to test and ensure functionality.

The IoT was particularly challenging due to the dynamic adaptation of the shoe design. This specific requirement made the development more complex and required innovative solutions to ensure smooth functionality.

What we have achieved

The result of our project with adidas Business Unit Originals was a highly innovative product characterized by dynamic adaptation of the shoe design. Despite the challenges of the IoT device, we developed a solution that meets the highest standards of innovation.

Our product offers maximum customization of the branded product through a digital solution. This innovative extension of the traditional shoe allowed customers to customize the design of the shoe according to their own ideas.

The result is a unique customer experience that is forward-looking and perfectly reflects the needs of the target group. With our solution, we were able to set a new standard for personalized products and strengthen customer loyalty to the adidas brand.

Our approach

Our approach to the development of the adidas Originals shoe included the role of IT Innovation Product Manager, acting as a liaison between the business unit and the development team. I reported directly to the Director of Innovation and managed the agencies involved.

The process started with extensive research and product validation to derive a solid product concept. In the area of IoT, the focus was on integrating a display into the shoe to test its suitability for mass production. At the same time, an MVP with an associated app was developed and the design of a beacon-driven community was advanced. A display control feature was implemented for the app and business development was conducted at the same time. In my role as product and project manager, I coordinated all aspects of the project to ensure that the goals were achieved efficiently.
